Frequently Asked Questions About Our Kitchen Renovations

Do I need planning permission for a kitchen renovation?

The majority of kitchen renovations do not require planning permission if the work is internal and an existing space. You may need planning permission or Article 4 approval to make internal changes if your property is listed or in a conservation area. Planning permission may also be required if the kitchen renovation includes an extension that falls outside of permitted development rules. We always suggest contacting your local council before undertaking any work to confirm if planning or other permissions may be required for your particular property and location.

Kitchen renovations will require building regulations approval if walls are removed or structural changes are made, if the drainage is substantially altered, or if significant electrical and plumbing works are needed.

Yes. Keystone Homes can carry out major and minor structural alterations to create open-plan kitchens subject to permissions. If walls are being removed, a structural engineer may be required to provide calculations before the work begins and we can work with local building control on your behalf to sign off works. Listed properties and Article 4 restrictions may require specific planning permission to make structural changes.
